Clare is the Interim Local Projects Director in the Local Innovation team and joined the Young Foundaiton in May 2008.
Clare is an experienced senior local government manager, with particular expertise in regeneration and community safety. After working for the GLC in the early 1980's she moved to Brighton where she pioneered joint working between the police, the council and the community. Subsequently she managed the city's £41 million regeneration programme, alongside responsibility for community development and voluntary sector grants.
Since 2002 Clare has been a consultant. She has worked in a number of London boroughs - helping Islington to set up a new domestic violence service, restructuring the community safety service in Sutton and, last year, in Tower Hamlets, where she was interim Head of Service. She is a national neighbourhood renewal adviser, specialising in crime and drugs. For 6 months until April 2008 Clare managed economic development and inclusion for Hastings Borough Council and developed their economic development and inclusion strategy.
In her early career Clare specialised in race relations and immigration, first as information and research officer for the Runnymede Trust, and subsequently as a consultant to the Council of Europe and adviser to the BBC where she co-authored a book on multi-cultural education.
Clare went to Newnham College Cambridge, where she studied history and has an MA in social policy from the University of Brighton. She is a Common Purpose graduate.
