Charles Tilly

Young Foundation adviser Charles Tilly has died at the age of 78.

Charles Tilly was one of the world's most prolific and creative social thinkers. He gave one of the Young Foundation's first public lectures in 2005 and has been an adviser on a number of projects. At an age when most people would be quietly sitting in their gardens he kept up an extraordinary stream of new publications on issues as diverse as inequality, political campaigning, democracy and how we explain complex situations. Many of us here gained an enormous amount from his wide knowledge and acute insights - and from his generosity.
