The Launch of the 'Collaborative City'

This week sees the publication of ‘The Collaborative City: working together to shape London’s future ‘. This report marks the launch of the London Collaborative, a Capital Ambition initiative led by the Young Foundation in partnership with OPM and Common purpose, to help London work more effectively across organisational and geographical boundaries.

Through future scenarios ranging from the highly probable to the highly improbable but potentially high impact, the report draws out implications of a wide range of future trends including population growth, community relations, climate change, housing and shocks to the system such as pandemics. The report is optimistic about London’s prospects, with continued growth and strong economic performance as the most likely scenario. But success also creates its own problems such as pressure on the city’s infrastructure and rising housing costs .The report argues that London’s public sector will need to work more effectively across boundaries to sustain the city’s economic and cultural dynamism, become more resilient to face an uncertain future and develop greater capacity to think and act as a connected system.

The report was launched on 18 March at the BT Centre by Councillor Merrick Cockell, Chair of London Councils and Local Government Minister John Healy MP. Geoff Mulgan and Tony Travers, director of the LSE Greater London Group, will also be speaking.
