Malcolm Dean

Malcolm DeanMalcolm Dean is the Guardian’s lead writer on social affairs and assistant editor. He has worked on the paper for over 30 years, writing its editorials on health and social policy for over 20 of them.

For the last 15 years he has also written regular London dispatches for the Lancet. He was seconded by the Guardian in 1978 to the UK’s Department of Health, where he served as a special adviser to the Secretary of State for Health until the Labour government fell in May 1979. He sat as the editorial representative on the Scott Trust, who owns The Guardian Media Group plc., from 1994 to 2001.
